it's been 3 years & 4 months... [Nov. 15th, 2010|01:43 am]
[Current Music |Melissa McClelland: "Passenger 24"]

So its been awhile... does anyone even read this anymore? I mean, there was LJ, then MySpace, and now Facebook...

Whats after Facebook?

I dont have much to say other than hi and I miss reading all of these posts on here. I guess we kind of traded long journal entries between friends for short, contrived status updates. As fun as those are, I do kind of miss these.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and I think this is the best route to go. No offense to any of you [I don't know] who read my mindless ramblings mainly about music, but if you want to be added as a friend, just add me. Sound good? Ok?

If you've never used LJ before, just go to:

"with the teeth-a-a-a-ahhh...." [Apr. 21st, 2005|05:10 am]
[Current Mood |impressedimpressed]
[Current Music |nine inch nails: "you know what you are?"]

Like I stated before, I had liked the first song which leaked off the above record, "The Line Begins To Blur". On Tuesday night this week, the entire record leaked here on the net - and I was able to get ahold of it yesterday thanks to my friends Eric & Chris. Nine Inch Nails were always the kind of band (to me) who put out records which I would buy > listen to once or twice > put away > & end up only liking two or three good songs. My favorites of theirs have always been: "Burn", "Dead Souls", "The Perfect Drug" (some soundtrack songs), "We're In This Together Now", "Into The Void", "March Of The Pigs", "S.I.N.", "Get Down Make Love", etc - there are a few more. I've heard their records, but I've never really been that into them. Well, now thats changed. I really like "With_Teeth". A lot. I've listened to it 3 times now in the 11 hours I've had it on my computer. Its beautiful, industrial-sounding pop music at it's best. Every single one of these 13 tracks are great in their own aspect. There isn't a bad composition on here. I really respect Trent Reznor. I can see why so many people look up to him. He is like the Brian Wilson of his genre. Did I mention Grohl drums on here to add to it? Anyway, I'll stop ranting and raving about this record, but if you dig nine inch nails - you should really read this article my friend Ian (localpanda210) had published in The Depaulia. It's a really great read, and will give you an idea of what the new album sounds like. "With_Teeth" is out a week from Tuesday.

Thanks to Ryan, I also heard about 5 new songs off the upcoming Oasis disc, "Don't Believe The Truth", which is due out 5/30/05. So far, I like what I hear. I will reserve judgement for the full record, but "Let There Be Love" is really good, as well as "Mucky Fingers".

Also, the new Foo Fighters song hit radio today, "Best Of You" - from their upcoming disc, "With Honor" due out 6/14/05. It's really catchy, and has that simple Foo-sound to it. Its really grown on me these past few hours. I think I took in too much new music today, but I had nothing better to do anyway. Hehe.

Last night, I went over to Joel's parents house for dinner w/out Kelly (or as I'm now calling her, "The Attachment"...). She had to go to some Mud Hens game w/ some work associates, so she couldn't join us. Awww.... too bad. We had steak, but I got the smallest piece, and I was still hungry when we all got done. Oh well. Then, his mom trimmed up my hair a bit, and we headed out. Came home, and then around 1145-ish had the brilliant idea to order a pizza to go pick it up. I called, placed an order for a large ham (my fave) - and they were closing at midnight, so I just left right after I ordered it. Got there at like 1153, and they hadn't even put it in yet. The one guy there was all apologetic to me & said it would be "on-the-house". Cool, I thought. Thats $8 in the pocket. Well, I was off in my own world, and about 9mins later - he hands me this small-ass, mini single ham pizza. I'm all like (to myself). By this time, the guy was shutting everything down - and I didn't want to be the asshole to bitch about a free pizza that was made the wrong size. He seemed like a cool guy, altho he was ranting and raving about Slipknot being played on the radio or something tonight, like I'd care about that. Yeah man... "way cool!" Ha. Anyway, I just took it home, ate it - and I was still hungry when I finished, but I'm giving up for the day. I'll eat tomorrow. I think I have some pretzels around here somewhere if I really need 'em.

Tonight, I'm going w/ ginalvsbnl, pumpknguril (maybe, if I get ahold of her), zelda27gg, & washmylove to see Flickerstick in Hillsdale, Michigan. I emailed the band's tour-manager for permission to tape & this was his response:

i'll check with the guys and their manager and let you know

That was like Monday. So far, nothing. Damn it. Not that I really care anyway, I just want to tape - cuz I enjoy it. Plus, I think everyone I'm going with would be happy to have a recording since I have the gear to do it with. I'm going to email one more time & ask. I found out yesterday The Burning Brides are playing Detroit tonight in St. Andrews. Fuck. They only come around here maybe once a year, but I already made plans, and I'm not going to break them. I'll have to see them some other time. They are only opening, so it will most likely only be a 40min set compared to their 60-70 headlining slot. They are opening for The Black Keys? I've never heard of them. But, the Burning Brides rock - and tonight is going to be no exception.

Job (or lack there of) update: Remember that lawfirm I interviewed at? Most of you know this already (having asked me), but turns out - they hired some black lady in at $6.50/hr. Ha! Fuck that. I'd rather stay unemployed than make that!!! So yeah... they didnt hire me I guess cuz I was asking too much? Too bad. I'm still applying at other jobs - like the one I applied today for is for a help desk position, part-time (30hrs a week) - $16/an hour... m > f... I hope I get it. I got a decent tax return, but that will only last me so long......

More Sponge... [pics, mp3, source info...]Collapse )

So I think its official "run into ex-gf" month. I didnt post this in here, but 4 weeks ago when out w/ Chris at this place down on Phillips.. I think it was called The Longhorn, we were there seeing some friend's band of his cousins... they sucked, but I ran into Gabi, who I kinda saw for a few months in the end of 2003. Then last week I ran into Melissa, then at the Sponge show (above), I ran into Angie! Jesus!! Except, tonight was totally cool - her (now) boyfriend was wearing the 12-FU Local H shirt, and actually knew who I was (as odd as that sounds), and we were talking before she even came up to me. But, it wasnt akward at all - we both joked about how we never called eachother after August, and how it never would have worked out, lol. If any of you read in here last summer, I never really felt "anything" w/ her... she was more of a friend, so I kinda didn't call her... hehe, whoops. But, we made plans to get together soon... but I didnt care to re-get her #, so unless she calls me, I call it post-breakup BS. Whatever, it was still fun - we ended up hanging out during most of the show. She's still a cool girl, and shes got an awesome boyfriend who sports Local H-wear....

Lets see what else went on tonight... Ooooo.. remember how I was supposed to go w/ pumpknguril? Well, I did actually hang out w/ her... her sis Mandy & her came over to my place, and we went to the mall & then out to dinner to Chilis before the show. We had all planned on going to the show, but then her sister got all depressed over some dude, & wanted to go home.. and Sarah just decided to call it a night, as well. But, like I had stated in my previous post, I was still planning on going solo - so that didn't stop me. It was still good seeing her tho.. it doesn't happen that often. Hopefully it will change with her moving here as of 5/1/05. She also likes the idea of Flickerstick in Hillsdale on Thursday, so she may come with... I have to ask ginalvsbnl to see if we have room first, tho.... I still have not heard one song by this band, but its something to do next week....

Ok, well I'm starting to rant about nothingness, so I'm going to get going...
In conclusion, Sponge was damn-good... and I think I might actually buy their new record this summer....

Oh, does anybody want to see Lifehouse with me on 5.7 (clev.) or 5.9 (pontiac)? I'd like to check 'em out. tix are under $20. let me know.

I just ordered the 2 Campground Effect records off of https://www.interpunk.com/ & I'm really excited to hear 'em. The 2 mp3s on their site kick severe amounts of ass.

later. for realz. im seriously.

tonight. [Apr. 16th, 2005|05:10 am]
[Current Music |Bob Seger: "Still The Same"]

As far as my plans go - I'm supposed to see Sponge here in Toledo w/ pumpknguril. Shes not the most reliable as far as friends go, so I will probably end up going solo.
Tonight will also mark the first time seeing a show in this venue since seeing Local H for the first time back on November 8th, 1996. Yeah, I know - no one cares. For anyone keeping score at home - it's now called Club Bijou, and not The Asylum. In the past 8+ years or so, it's become a dirty 18+ dance club with horny, slutty, skanky college girls running around rampid drunk off their ass on shitty cheap beer they consumed in their dorms before leaving. And for some reason, they thought this year would be a good time to start bringing rock bands back....
I don't get Toledo. I really don't.

For everyone on my list who digs BVA, heres yet another mp3 from my 2005-04-02 recording,

2 songs you need to download. [Apr. 12th, 2005|11:50 pm]
[Current Music |Strawberry Alarm Clock: "Incense And Peppermints"]

And I even provided web-links for ya! So, now you have to.
I've had both of these for quite a while (4+ months), but have been listening to them a lot lately, and thought I'd recommend them while I can.

The first song is a reminder of why Superdrag was such a special band. This was a b-side from their 1999 "In The Valley Of Dying Stars" sessions. It later surfaced on the Japanese release in 2000. This year, (5 years after being recorded, no less) it will be released on their B-Sides/Rarities compilation due out on Arena Rock. This song is so great, it's hard to believe it was left off any record.

Superdrag: "Comfortably Bummed"
(Right click, & save target as.)

This next song was recorded (every single instrument), and mixed by Scott Freeman (formerly of Sullen). The song has become one of my favorites just because if I'm feeling sad about something, I feel this track actually illustrates my mood perfectly. Its weird. I can't really explain it too well, but I like it a lot.

The Effers: "Song For A Friend"
(Right click, & save target as.)

People wonder why I was into Sullen so damn much - well, I will tell you why:
Since their dissolution in early 2004, all 3 members have gone their seperate ways and are writing some amazing music. Most bands are only backed by one main writer, while Sullen had 3 great ones, yet their own style. Their music was a creative labyrinth (if you will) of different styles merged into one, with certain tracks showing each member's strong points. This is what made The Beatles great back in the 60s, and is pretty rare today among artists, which is sad. Sullen had that, but couldn't work out personal issues to continue as a band.
In other Sullen-related news, Shanna has moved out to LA - so the hopes of a Sullen reunion of any kind in future-time might be tough to come by. I still think they will all play together again someday.
I can hope, anyway.

Enjoy the 2 tracks, and sorry for the rants. If you liked them, please let me know.
