Show was really good, only problem were the acoustics in the place. Pretty poor, if you ask me. I ended up getting full permission from the guys to tape as I walked in with my gear, so that was pretty cool. There's only a small amount of bands (most of whom I know real well) who let me full-on record them, & Sponge was not one of them. So, I got to talk w/ their manager, a very cool dude.
Anyway, the problem w/ the sound pretty much resulted in the guitars not being amplified properly in the house mix, and were only coming from the stage amplifers. This was a pretty decent sized place (look at the pics below) & any idiot should know to turn them up in the mix. I ended up recording roughly 10ft back from the left stack using my stand, and the vocals and drums are very apparent, where the guitar/bass you hear - is from the stage. If you listen with headphones to the below mp3, you will hear the main instruments on the right side, and the drums/vocals predominantly in the left/center. Weird. But, all recording aside, it was a great, high-energy show & everyone in attendence seemed to really enjoy themselves.
Sponge have a new full-length due out in June they claimed, and they performed one new song from it tonight entitled, "It Feels Like Love". It was honestly the best song I've heard out of the band since "Wax Ecstatic" was released. Very good song. All of their albums 1999 & on have kind of dissapointed me, and the only real reason I've gone to see them in recent years were for the first 2 records. I might put up the mp3 of the new song later today, if time permits. But for now, here was the encore last night,

So I think its official "run into ex-gf" month. I didnt post this in here, but 4 weeks ago when out w/ Chris at this place down on Phillips.. I think it was called The Longhorn, we were there seeing some friend's band of his cousins... they sucked, but I ran into Gabi, who I kinda saw for a few months in the end of 2003. Then last week I ran into Melissa, then at the Sponge show (above), I ran into Angie! Jesus!! Except, tonight was totally cool - her (now) boyfriend was wearing the 12-FU Local H shirt, and actually knew who I was (as odd as that sounds), and we were talking before she even came up to me. But, it wasnt akward at all - we both joked about how we never called eachother after August, and how it never would have worked out, lol. If any of you read in here last summer, I never really felt "anything" w/ her... she was more of a friend, so I kinda didn't call her... hehe, whoops. But, we made plans to get together soon... but I didnt care to re-get her #, so unless she calls me, I call it post-breakup BS. Whatever, it was still fun - we ended up hanging out during most of the show. She's still a cool girl, and shes got an awesome boyfriend who sports Local H-wear....
Lets see what else went on tonight... Ooooo.. remember how I was supposed to go w/ pumpknguril? Well, I did actually hang out w/ her... her sis Mandy & her came over to my place, and we went to the mall & then out to dinner to Chilis before the show. We had all planned on going to the show, but then her sister got all depressed over some dude, & wanted to go home.. and Sarah just decided to call it a night, as well. But, like I had stated in my previous post, I was still planning on going solo - so that didn't stop me. It was still good seeing her tho.. it doesn't happen that often. Hopefully it will change with her moving here as of 5/1/05. She also likes the idea of Flickerstick in Hillsdale on Thursday, so she may come with... I have to ask ginalvsbnl to see if we have room first, tho.... I still have not heard one song by this band, but its something to do next week....
Ok, well I'm starting to rant about nothingness, so I'm going to get going...
In conclusion, Sponge was damn-good... and I think I might actually buy their new record this summer....
Oh, does anybody want to see Lifehouse with me on 5.7 (clev.) or 5.9 (pontiac)? I'd like to check 'em out. tix are under $20. let me know.
I just ordered the 2 Campground Effect records off of https://www.interpunk.com/ & I'm really excited to hear 'em. The 2 mp3s on their site kick severe amounts of ass.
